The new school councillors were very excited to receive their school council badges in assembly.

Upon our arrival, we had home-cooked pancakes served with honey and apple juice in roman numeral cups. We then became archeologists and excavated a Roman villa. We found many different artefacts, including broken pots, coins, bones and tesserae (mosaic tiles). We were able to work out what the different rooms in the villa would have been based upon what was found there.

We also tried different activities that the people in Britain would have been doing, including whittling wood to make a butter knife, making jewellery from pewter and weaving wool to create cloth. 

We all agreed it was a fantastic trip!

We started by learning about the life cycle of a plant and then visited the meadow to explore the flowers growing there. Next, we searched for invertebrates using nets to find what was living in the long grasses and lifting old wooden stumps to see what was underneath. We found a newt and lots of different insects. After lunch, we pond dipped where we found a ramshorn snail, non biting midge larvae, damselfly nymph and backswimmers. We all had a lovely day with the wildlife!

We celebrated our 150th birthday in style! We held a service of thanksgiving at the Church and heard from past and present students about their time at the school. We then had a celebration at school. We had a Victorian fairground on the field with a carousel and steam train, an exhibition of school memorabilia and maypole dancing.  A big thank you to all who came to celebrate with us, those who helped organise the day and everyone who donated money towards a new library and sensory room. It was lovely to see everybody!

We uncovered the remains of the walls and a number of rooms, some with mosaic floors. We found quite a lot of pottery pieces which would have been bowls, Roman coins, broaches and the remains of the food they would have eaten. We were able to work out what life would have been like in the Roman villa using the evidence that we found.

We walked to the church, where we listened to a recording of the war announcement, wrote letters to our parents and posted them, as evacuees. We walked to the pill box and had our WW2 rationed picnics out on the field, before returning to school where we made some recipes using the limited ingredients available to us!

The visit to the Tower of London brought alive our learning about the Tudors, and seeing "Raleigh's Walk" was a wonderful link to our reading "My Friend Walter" by Micheal Morpurgo.

There were fantastic performances from all actors who really acted out their parts and delivered their lines with great expression and character. After spending the morning completing different sporting events to win prizes for our house, we walked down to the village field to complete in the races. The parents cheered on as the children took part in the sprint, egg and spoon, piggies in blankets and space hopper races. Attenborough house were thrilled to have won the sports day trophy this year having collected the most points for their team throughout the day.

The BBQ, tea and cakes stall proved to be popular, and the children particularly enjoyed playing splat the rat and the football stall. The highlight of the day was the dog show. So many dogs were in attendance, proudly displaying their rosettes for winning the different classes in the dog show including waggiest tail, dog most like their owner and best / worst trained dog.

Thank you so much to the Friends of Dennington School for organising the fayre. We raised a grand total of £1,461.16 for the school.

All children and teachers came into school dressed in the clothing of one of the decades of the Queen's reign. After eating fish and chips and ice-cream for lunch, each class performed a maypole dance. The children entered cakes into the Jubilee cake baking competition which were judged with prizes handed out. We showed parents our Jubilee art work and time-line which was then displayed in Dennington Church during the Jubilee weekend.

We went on the train to Liverpool Street and then the tube to the British Museum, where we had a fascinating time looking at the Ancient Greek artefacts there. We had a lovely wander around London, including cooling off at Trafalgar Square and the all important McDonald's! The absolute highlight was seeing the show "Matilda" at the theatre - we were blown away by the performance! The children were superbly behaved and were all had an amazing day and a very late night!

We read our own books, listened to class stories, read books to children in different classes and had fun answering quiz questions about our favourite books.
